Terra Cotta Pots White Washed and Stenciled

When we were in Ohio at the Springfield Flea Market I, bought several mini terra cotta pots(amongst a trailer load of other things for my booth 🙂 )

It bewilders me that I always tend to gravitate towards the smallest, most delicate things amidst a sea of junk.

“Smalls” are definitely something I hunt for or notice when I am looking at someone else’s display.

This time around I found a bag full of mini terra cotta pots lying on the ground under a table in a booth.

The price was right so I scooped them up!

I had put a few pots in the June Barn Show at Chartreuse and decided I would white wash these with the paint I had left over from my potting shed…she-shed post.

First up was giving the little pots a good scrubbing.

Once the pots dried, I white washed them using Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain.

You really can’t go wrong when you white wash pots.

I like to wet my brush and then dab it into the paint instead of diluting my paint if the paint happens to be thick.

I just keep my brush damp and if more paint goes on than I like, I add water to my brush and go over it.

You can use sandpaper to take the excess paint off once the pots dry, but I find keeping my brush wet will take enough paint off and in turn save me the extra step of sanding.

With a lesson in resilience, I added flower petals to the pots once the white wash was dry.

Patience was needed to wrap the stencil and keep it in place to paint these small flower petals.

I used Funky Junk’s Old Sign Stencils – Potting Shed Stencil for the petals.

I don’t know about you, but if I purchase something I always look for several ways to use it.

In this case I only used the small flower petals from the stencil.

Simple, fun, DIY to add a little character to your flower pots 🙂
