When Your Makeup Saves the Day…and You’re Not Even on a Date!
This is a first!
No, not writing a DIY Post ….
But, this is definitely the first ever DIY project that I have taken on that was rescued by my makeup case!
Sounds crazy, right?

How to make a personalized doormat or in this case a potting shed or garden shed mat.
I was out shopping for flowers when I noticed that they had plain doormats on sale.
With the July Barn show this week I decided to do a “potting shed” doormat for my garden display.
I thought it would look cute in front of a wash tub with a bundle of watering cans.
Supplies
- Doormat
- Stencil(Funky Junk’s Old Sign Stencil – Potting Shed)
- Paint(Fusion Mineral Paints) Champlain(letters) Lily Pond(stems)
- Brushes
- thumbnails
tape- toenail polish (Flower Petals)
First off I measured my doormat and then positioned my stencil securing it with thumbnails.
I was going to use tape, but it wasn’t sticking so I used the thumbnails.
These mats are dense so you don’t need to dry brush like you would when you stencil on a piece of wood.
I had to keep increasing the amount of paint on my brush
sooo…
load up your brush unless you want to do three coats like I ended up doing 😉
You still want to tap up and down with your brush so that you don’t get paint under the stencil.
The color I had on hand and the one I was going to use for the flower petals was not going to work.
The color was not bright enough for the brown mat.
So I was forced to improvise and I decided to use my toenail polish 🙂
I’m not advising this as your first option, but it worked and I didn’t need to venture out into the holiday weekend traffic!
Personalized doormats are a simple DIY that adds to any space.
They also make great inexpensive gifts.
You could personalize one for a baby shower, wedding, anniversary…you name it!
Fun ideas for an entrance when your guests arrive.
Have fun creating and let me know your own unique way of personalizing your doormat.
Kindly, xo
Jane
