Simple Fall decorating in the summer heat!
We will be in the 90’s all week in North Carolina, but my favorite time of year is just around the corner. I can barely wait to feel that first crisp morning that reveals its arrival!
I know it’s early, but the one thing about being in retail…is that you’re never in the moment.
My Christmas orders arrive in the summer and I’m buying watering cans in the winter.
With the change of season slowly approaching most of us are already secretly thinking about decorating our porches for Fall.
With a truck full of birdhouse gourds as my starting point, I started to pack up for the September Barn Show at Chartreuse.
The one thing about doing a monthly show is that you need to plan ahead.
You don’t get the full month to sell items, therefore, you may be a little early at times for something seasonal.
Last year the monthly barn show was the third weekend of the month so I was selling pumpkins in August!
As far as decorating for Fall I like to keep it simple.
The majority of my decorating will be outside with a few small things for inside our home.
The birdhouse gourds are a fun inexpensive item for the porch.
Toss in an old tobacco basket, hay bales, and a few pitchforks and you have a traditional southern Fall display.
One of my favorite items to pair with a rustic display is a cotton wreath.
Pick up an old tobacco basket at a flea market or barn sale 😉
Perfectly imperfect baskets with broken slates makes every basket unique.
The perfect accent to our rustic barn.
Or simply for your door!
Whatever your style you can’t go wrong with adding a little cotton to your Fall decorating.
As always I would love to hear from you.
Let me know in the comments below if you’re ready for Fall and how you like to decorate 🙂
Kindly, xo
Jane

Hey Jane it’s Debee From WNY. Love your site only just found your blog. Sure wish I lived closer to NC.
As for Fall I absolutely love the weather smells and harvest that abounds. It’s been a dry year here however pumpkin farmers say the sun has been prevalent to grow pumpkins!! Starting to see on porches. I have never been too successful at growing my own.
It is my favorite time of year and I go wild inside and out. I also always have a fall Halloween party which my house is over decorated for. Fave color…orange!?
Your blog is fun. What is the intrigue of the cotton lately(in wreaths)
Hi Debee, I also love the way the weather smells and the type of foods we eat. I wish you did live closer…your Halloween party sounds fun! I hope you share some pictures once you get decorated. As far as the cotton wreaths…I’m not sure what started the trend. When I moved to NC I fell in love with things I had never seen before. Traveling between states we passed cotton fields and I added them to my home decor. It works for me next to all the rust 🙂 Thank-you for checking out my blog and sharing what you love about Fall !
I like the cotton wreaths! Perfect for fall vignettes.
Hi Carlene, I agree! I also love the stems and have an olive basket full in our living room. I don’t need to worry about watering…Lol!
I love the part about secretly decorating decorating porches for fall. There are folks who hold onto summer until it slips from their fingers. I’ve always loved fall and the decorating possibilities it gives. One of these days I’ll make a barn show.
I hope you’ll make it to the barn one day! We’ve been looking at trying to make it your way. Fall is definitely my favorite for many reasons 🙂
Gorgeous decorations! Looks beautiful Jane!
Thank-you! Fall is a fun time around here and so beautiful in NC 🙂
My favorite season! My mom always grows little white pumpkins and I love to decorate with them. Your photos are beautiful, and those gourds…..love! You’ve got me in the mood!
Thank-you Jamey 🙂 Wish I lived closer I love the little white pumpkins! I decorated with them last year and will probably do the same this year. It’s still hot here, but I’m pricing metal pumpkins tonight for the show.
Love your blog Jane Love & miss you guys Mom & Dad
thanks mom & dad 🙂
LOVE it!! Simplicity is key for me too. No decorating yet and it will mostly be outdoors here as well still cleaning out and feeling overwhelmed so maybe switching gears this week might be a good idea. I also enjoy fall it’s such a neat season of transition.
Hi Carole, I can’t wait to see your move! I’m so excited for you 🙂 Try not to get overwhelmed…easier said then done…I know!
