Farmhouse Christmas Tote

Farmhouse stencil. Using Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencil I add "Farmhouse" to an old wooden antique tote. With Christmas approaching I added a few bells and trees.

If you were to ask me if I would decorate with blue for Christmas…I would say no way!

We’ve strolled through neighborhoods in years past and I have always wondered why some people pick blue lights?

Well…I don’t know what has happened to me, but I’m feeling the blue…at least for this display 😉

I received this wonderful “Farmhouse Stencil” from Funky Junk Interiors Old Sign Stencils.

(Stencil comes in two sizes…this is the smaller size)

Thrilled to have a few more stencils to show you and play around with I started to plan out what I would make.

Stenciling an antique tote for Christmas using Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils

This antique tote was hanging out on my barn porch and something struck me to grab it and line up the stencil.

The stencil fit perfectly!

The tote needed to be tilted up so I leaned it against this antique mortiser.

I lined up the stencil and used Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.

When it comes to stenciling keep your brush dry and tap up and down.

Dab your brush into the paint and then tap it onto something else before you start to stencil.

You just want to make sure you brush is not loaded with wet paint that will bleed under the stencil.

Farmhouse Christmas Decor. Using a stencil to an antique tote.

You can distress your letters with some fine grit sand paper if you want them to look worn.

I tend to skip this step letting the words pop off the old wood.

Farmhouse Christmas Decorating. Old windmill, stenciled antique crate and some mini Christmas trees.

With Christmas fast approaching I thought I would decorate the tote for the holidays.

Seeing as both our families live on the opposite coast, we rarely entertain Christmas guests so I don’t need to worry about people wondering why we have pumpkins on the porch and a Christmas tree on the step.

It get’s kinda crazy this time of year, but we just go with it and have fun.

Kindly, xo

Jane

  • Love it! Blue is my new color, too. Not sure if I will do only blue for Christmas, but it is definitely the main color in my house these days. I especially love a muted, antique sort of blue!

    • Hi Jamey, we have a large antique sign in our living room that is blue with white letters. It sparked a change in our Christmas decorating…simplicity. I know I will have a hint of red around…I’m a sucker for tradition. Looking forward to seeing your Christmas decorating 🙂

  • Looks great and I don’t normally go for blue at Christmas either but I’ve been seeing a little of it here and there and it to has grabbed my attention. Silver has also been on the brain so who knows what I’ll come up with this year. Love this project and that Farmhouse stencil was a perfect fit for that project.

  • I love this! I really need to practice my stenciling, I’m just not patient enough with it, I think..but you’ve done a beautiful job!
And I laughed about your pumpkins & Christmas decor..I just painted my big pumpkin (who has surprisingly hung in there like a champ) white with chalk paint so he could blend in & hang out some more through turkey day. xo

  • This entire display is gorgeous! While I’m not a blue person either, you’re converting me. It has a snowy frosty feel to it!

And your signed up sleigh is so adorable! I’ll take the fan blade too, please…

Thank you for the mention of the stencils!

    • Hi Donna, I want it to feel like winter and I’m going with a little simplicity as far as the Dr. Seuss tree we have this year 😉 I love the idea of a “snowy frosty feel.” Looking forward to your creative ideas for Christmas decorating 🙂
