I just couldn’t wait… 😉
The truth is when you’re in retail you can’t wait.
I’m in the midst of getting ready for our next barn show.
Our Vintage Christmas booth will be nestled in an old barn with twinkling lights and carols playing.
So I’ve been busy buying, planning, and preparing!
With a rather large collection of old sleighs, ski’s, and snow shoes I realized I needed one more piece.
I wanted to make a sign that had the feel of an old ski lodge.
To make a similar sign you’ll need
Piece of Wood with some character(I had one that I had kept in mind all summer!)
Paint(Country Chic in Cheesecake & Christmas Red Craft Paint)
Hook (for hanging if desired)
This old piece of worn wood was once the side of a wooden wheelbarrow.
We have had it in our stash for some time and I knew it was going to be a sign one day.
I made the decision not to breathe new life into the wood with oil.
My vision was to make a sign that had an old-timey feel.
With my piece of wood already aged to perfection from days gone by, I started with placing my stencil.
I started to measure the sides for placement and ended up eyeballing the way I wanted it to sit.
Taped the stencil in place including any registration marks and got to work.
When you are stenciling keep your brush dry.
You can see in the photo that I add paint to my brush and then I tap it and swirl it on the cardboard before applying the paint to my piece of wood.
This will give you cleaner lines.
Once I had the sleigh rides finished and dried I added the 25¢.
I was making several signs at once…so it was crazy with paint and tape…yikes!
With such an old piece of wood, I never sanded the finished sign.
I wanted the “sleigh rides” to pop off the wood.
You can see another sign that somehow made its way into my picture 😉
You can find all of these stencils and more at Funky Junk’s Old Sign Stencils
‘Tis the season…
