Simple Christmas Joy Sign

ho, ho, ho

Oh, the “JOY” of saving money on Christmas decorations.

With all money being spent on Christmas gifts, family get- together’s and travel, I wanted to create an inexpensive Christmas decoration that would look great and fit in with our farmhouse Christmas.

I had passed by these wooden letters from Target several times.

With projects in full swing, I grabbed a couple of these letters for a simple, inexpensive Christmas joy sign.

You can find these letters in the craft section of Target.

They also come in at a bargain price of $1.49 per letter and I had a coupon 🙂

Christmas has a way of painting you into a corner with its’ traditional color choices…white, green or red!

So Red it was!

I spray painted them with Ace Hardware’s Colonial Red.

I wait for them to dry(takes no time at all) and applied the snowflakes from Funky Junk’s Old Sign Stencil

winter graphics.

The snowflakes are little so keeping your stencil brush really dry is a must.

Tapping your stencil brush a littler harder with even less paint than usual.

The snowflakes definitely make the sign come alive.

I then attached the Joy sign by drilling up through the old barn wood into the letters.

You can also attach the letters to the wood to create a flat sign instead of a standing sign.

I made several of the flat signs for the Christmas open house and they were the first to go 😉

I hope you are having a little fun this holiday season, take time for you.

Kindly, xo

  • I love this project and that colonial red is nice. Neat idea, I’m all about making my own decorating happen instead of buying it. We even stopped doing gifts around here because it’s always more fun just enjoying time together, watching movies, playing games and visiting.

    • Hi Carole, we don’t buy much either. We’ll do stockings and one for our fur baby…she’ll make us laugh. I hope you are enjoying the holiday season.
